Information Systems, Operations, Supply Chain, and Analytics (IOSA)
Information systems focuses on developing and managing information systems technologies, the interaction of those systems with users, and the impact of those systems on organizations and society. Supply chain and operations management focuses on designing and managing value-added processes across various organizations involved in supplying goods or providing services to meet consumer needs. Analytics is used to discover, interpret, and communicate meaningful information and patterns through analyzing data, which in turn, helps with effective decision-making in business. Today’s business enterprises need to pay close attention to their supply chains and operations, use information systems, and incorporate analytics to enhance and support their businesses.
Research
Faculty in this area conduct cutting-edge research in a variety of topics that are critical for operations, supply chain management, and management information systems. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, our faculty collaborate with experts across campus using a variety of data analytic techniques. Recent research uses machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms to design smart systems and sophisticated technologies. Our faculty explore implications of sustainability, shared economy, e-commerce, block chain, and social networks on managing supply chain and operations of various firms. Our faculty regularly publish their research findings in the top journals in the field, hold leadership positions in the discipline’s professional associations, and serve the profession as members of editorial boards for prestigious scholarly journals.
Industry Partnerships
The Information Systems, Operations, Supply Chain, and Analytics (IOSA) area has extensive interactions with industry partners to provide our students with experiential learning opportunities and awareness of current trends. Our relationships with corporate partners provide additional real-world context for much of the material that students in the IOSA programs can learn in the classroom.
Our industry partners deliver guest lectures in classes, participate in seminars and panel discussions, organize case competitions, host site visits, and provide industry perspective. Students in these programs have opportunities to work on industry-sponsored projects and deliver value to firms such as Aldi, Caterpillar, COUNTRY Financial, Echo Global Logistics, John Deere, P&G, OSI Group, Shell and more.
